Sue Gifford and Sustainability

I am drawn to nature, inspired by its colours, shapes, diversity and ability to renew itself year in, year out. The benefits nature bestows on us are incredible. You only have to spend time in the countryside, or by the sea to reap the benefits it bestows upon us. Take the dogs for a walk in the woods, lay on the grass, gaze at up at the sky and watch the passing clouds or smell the wonderful aroma of summer flowers whilst listening to the charm of birdsong to realise just how spectacular our world is. The thought of losing any more of our flora and fauna because of the destruction of our delicate environment that supports this world is abhorrent. Humans have been responsible for many dreadful actions since they first set foot on the Earth but if we do not begin to waste less, utilise more of the resources we already have and stop polluting our surroundings, the consequence could be unthinkable not just for nature but for us all.

Nature is an intrinsic part of my world as an artist, with most of my work depicting flowers, plants, small animals and birds, which create wonderfully atmospheric interiors, furniture, art and accessories that imbue their surroundings with a sense of wonder and awe. I endeavour to use as sustainable products as possible, to not waste paper or packaging, paint or even brushes and to work in support of the environment rather than against it.
